EED Advisory / The World Bank Group | National Energy Surveys | The off-grid solar market assessment was guided by three primary objectives: 1. Identifying available solar solutions for electricity and cooking in the off-grid solar market. 2. Examining local financial markets for solar suppliers. 3. Identifying challenges and opportunities to scale up off-grid solar markets. The assessment focused on gathering market information from various supply-side actors, including suppliers of off-grid solar products, non-governmental organizations, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, and financial institutions. A minimum of seven suppliers of off-grid solar products and appliances were interviewed. CARE International | Documentation of learning products and production of mini documentaries on the impact of Girls Education Empowerment Project in Somalia’ (GEEPS) | The objective of this exercise was to create learning products in various media—print, photography, and video/audio—to effectively communicate the impact of GEEPS to key stakeholders, including Ministries of Education, development practitioners, communities, and donors. It focused on documenting successful cases through field visits and data collection, capturing stories and visuals of interventions, and conducting an outcome/impact harvesting workshop to analyze and prioritize interventions at the Ministry of Education level across the project zones. 1. Briefing Paper: A technical paper was produced detailing the project’s interventions, methodologies, and processes. 2. Impact Stories: 5 impact stories were created (up to 1,200 words each). 3. Blog: Content for one blog was developed (up to 1,200 words) focusing on the impact of girls’ leadership skills development on learning and transition outcomes, strengthening safeguarding, social capital, and mental health. 4. Evidence-Based Case Studies: Evidence-based case studies were compiled. 5. Documentary: 2 documentaries were produced: a 15-minute documentary and a 2-minute mini-documentary suitable for social media platforms, showcasing the success of interventions on the program participants across the project zones. 6. Qatar Charity | Monitoring and Evaluation exercise for Providing cash assistance to Flood-affected families to improve access to food in Dolow, Jubaland State of Somalia. | The objective of the Monitoring and Evaluation exercise is to assess the effectiveness and impact of cash assistance provided to flood-affected families in Dolow, Jubaland State of Somalia, focusing on improving their access to food. Deliverables will include a comprehensive report detailing the assessment findings, including data analysis on the beneficiaries' food security status, recommendations for program improvement, and a set of key performance indicators to measure future interventions. World Food Programme (WFP) and Frontieri | For the Provision of Diagnostic Study to Design a Productive Safety Net (PSNP) in Urban Banadir for IDPs And Host Communities. | The objective of the diagnostic study is to develop a Productive Safety Net model in an urban context, with recommendations applicable to the Mogadishu urban market context, for livelihood and public works that are suitable for IDP populations and the most vulnerable host communities. The study will recommend Somalia Public Works Programme (PWP) options that may be Government-led/implemented, providing longer-term benefits linked to employment creation or climate risk reduction interventions in the urban context. Additionally, the study will propose tailored livelihood interventions that are ideal for urban market dynamics, ensuring productive engagement in economic activities. These interventions will adopt differentiated approaches and solutions across the urban poor in Mogadishu, taking into account age groups, gender, and levels of financial inclusion. Indeson/GIZ | Endline Evaluation of the Urban Food Security Project in Kismayo (UFSP). | We conducted a comprehensive end-of-project evaluation in four locations, highlighting achievements compared to baseline figures. Detailed print and audio-video documentation was created to showcase the impactful outcomes of the UFSP since its implementation in 2017. The project targeted the healthcare sector, specifically the hospital and primary health unit (PHU) in Kismayo, to improve the health and nutrition of the population. We authored a final report that summarized the state's potential annual revenue, road and transportation quality, and services. TPMIndeson/GIZ | Endline Evaluation of the Fish for Nutrition Project (FNP) in Kismayo. | The Fish-for-Nutrition Project (FNP) was implemented in Kismayo, Somalia, with the goal of increasing awareness about the nutritional and psychological benefits of fish consumption and improving the skills of fishermen and fish traders through the establishment of fish handling infrastructure. Over a period of five years, the project successfully constructed fish-for-nutrition infrastructure and contributed to the improvement of health and nutrition outcomes in the local population. Using the evaluation criteria provided by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/Development Assistance Committee (OECD/DAC), Tropical Consult conducted an assessment of fish losses, fish catch, and fish demand. Based on their findings, they prepared an end-line report. To validate the report, Tropical Consult organized a physical workshop where they presented their findings. The project received support from various organizations, including GIZ, Southern Aid, Smart Action, SIFALO, Lutheran World Federation, Wamo Relief and Rehabilitation Services, and the American Refugee Committee (ARC). Funding for the project was provided by the German Federal Ministry of Development and Cooperation (BMZ) in 2021. | TPM |
