  1. Project Background
    The Urban Food Security Project (UFSP) in Kismayo, Somalia, aims to improve the nutritional situation and livelihoods of households in the new settlements. The project, implemented by GIZ has been commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in May 2017. The project focuses on enhancing access to WASH infrastructure, increasing household income, and improving access to and information on more nutritious foods.

As part of the project’s end of evaluation and video documentation, we are seeking a qualified Media Experts to capture videos and photos, edit them, and produce short and long videos.

  1. Documentation of the UFS Project successes and impact:
    a) Prepare video footage and high-resolution photos with at least 6 stories of this
    project, at least 3 fact sheets and 1 brochure. This will include arial views of the 4
    project locations.
    b) Highlight, within the brochure and fact sheets, key lessons learnt, and good practices
    identified during project implementation as well as capturing project achievements
    according to the projects end line evaluation.
    c) Prepare a 25-minute full-length video, of what has been achieved under the three
    output areas, captured as a compelling story for the public, policy makers, the donor
    community, BMZ and the GIZ global community to watch.
    d) Prepare a 3-to-5-minute video on reflections of the most successful startup businesses.
    e) Prepare 3-to-5-minute video on reflections of the most successful kitchen gardens and
    open farms or Greenhouse.
    f) Prepare a 3-5 min video on the impact of the rehabilitated roads (before and after.
    Including arial views)
    g) Prepare a 3 to 5 minutes video on reflections and progressive growth of JUWA in terms
    of infrastructure and human resource capacity. Make 2 versions of this video. One from
    the GIZ perspective (GIZ audience) and one from the Ministry of Water perspective.
    The second version will be developed with the Ministry of Water. It will be based on the
    GIZ version but will be amended to suit the audiences as identified by the Ministry of
    Water. The Ministry of Water will be the owner of this second version.
    h) Capture the projects activities of the project’s lifetime with pictures and picture
    descriptions and compile them in a picture book (use existing books from UFSPs sister
    projects FNP and SRP as guidance)
  2. Responsibilities and Deliverables
    3.1 Media Experts: The Media Experts will be responsible for the following tasks:
    a) Plan and organize video and photo shoots, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and resources.
    b) Capture high-quality videos and photos that showcase the impact of the UFSP.
    c) Edit videos and photos to create visually appealing and informative content.
    d) Incorporate relevant graphics, animations, and text overlays to enhance the videos.
    e) Produce short videos suitable for social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).
    f) Produce long videos that provide a comprehensive overview of the UFSP, its activities, and outcomes.
    g) Collaborate with the project team to ensure the video documentation aligns with the project objectives and messaging.
    h) Maintain an organized library of video and photo assets for future use.
    i) Adhere to ethical standards and obtain necessary permissions and consents for capturing and using media content.
    j) Deliver final video and photo products in the required formats.
    Deliverables:
    a) High-quality videos and photos capturing the impact of the UFSP.
    b) Edited videos and photos ready for dissemination.
    c) Short videos suitable for social media platforms.
    d) Long videos providing a comprehensive overview of the UFSP.
    e) Organized library of video and photo assets.
    f) Final video and photo products delivered in the required formats.
  3. Qualifications and Experience
    4.1 Media Experts:
    o Proven experience in videography, photography, and video editing.
    o Proficiency in video editing software and photo editing tools.
    o Creative and artistic skills in capturing and editing visual content.
    o Knowledge of current trends in video production and social media platforms.
    o Strong communication and storytelling skills through visual media.
    o Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    o Familiarity with development projects or humanitarian work is an advantage.
  4. Duration and Timeline
    The assignment is expected to start on October 10, 2023 and be completed by November 30, 2023. The exact timeline will be discussed and agreed upon with the selected candidate.
  5. Reporting
    The Media Experts will report to the Project Manager or designated supervisor.
  6. Remuneration
    Remuneration will be provided based on agreed daily rates or a fixed lump sum amount, subject to negotiation and in accordance with the organization’s policies.
