- Project Background
The Urban Food Security Project (UFSP) in Kismayo, Somalia, aims to improve the nutritional situation and livelihoods of households in the new settlements. The project, implemented by GIZ has been commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in May 2017. The project focuses on enhancing access to WASH infrastructure, increasing household income, and improving access to and information on more nutritious foods.
As part of the project’s end of evaluation and video documentation, we are seeking qualified Field Research Officers to support data collection and analysis, as well as oversee video documentation activities.
- Objectives
The objectives of this assignment are as follows:
a) Conduct an endline evaluation of the UFSP in the four project locations (Midnimo, Madina, Gobweyn, and Luglow area) to assess project results and impact against baseline indicators.
b) Define and quantify relevant outcome and output indicators captured in the project’s result matrix.
c) Design and implement data collection methodologies, including surveys and interviews, to gather information for each indicator.
d) Collect and analyze secondary data to supplement the evaluation findings.
e) Oversee video documentation activities to showcase the impact of the UFSP on the community and highlight livelihood issues and solutions. - Responsibilities and Deliverables
3.1 Field Research Officers:
The Field Research Officers will be responsible for the following tasks:
a) Provide guidance and support to Enumerators in data collection activities.
b) Ensure the quality and integrity of data collected in the field.
c) Review and verify completed questionnaires and survey data.
d) Conduct data analysis and prepare reports on evaluation findings.
e) Coordinate with the project team and Enumerators to address any issues or challenges that arise during data collection.
f) Oversee the video documentation activities and ensure their alignment with project objectives.
g) Assist in the preparation of final evaluation reports and video documentation outputs.
Deliverables:
a) Verified and analyzed survey data.
b) Evaluation reports.
c) Video documentation outputs. - Qualifications and Experience
4.1 Field Research Officers:
o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, development studies, etc.).
o Experience in conducting evaluations or research studies.
o Strong analytical and report writing skills.
o Proficiency in data analysis software.
o Experience in video documentation is an advantage.
o Ability to work effectively in a team and coordinate field activities. - Duration and Timeline
The assignment is expected to start on October 9, 2023 and be completed by October 31, 2023. The exact timeline will be discussed and agreed upon with the selected candidates. - Reporting
The Field Research Officers will report to the Field Programs Manager. - Remuneration
Remuneration will be provided based on agreed daily rates or a fixed lump sum amount, subject to negotiation and in accordance with the organization’s policies.
